Antimony Pentoxide is typically supplied as the hydrate Sb₂O₅·nH₂O, with appearance ranging from white cubic crystals to pale yellow powder. Above 380 ℃ it loses one oxygen to form Sb₂O₄; above 930 ℃ it converts to Sb₂O₃. This controlled thermal behaviour underpins its flame-retardant synergy with halogen-based systems.

Does Antimony Pentoxide work as a flame retardant by itself?
No. Sb₂O₅ alone is not an effective flame retardant for most polymers. Its value comes from synergy with chlorinated or brominated flame retardants — together they reduce overall FR loading by 30–50% while maintaining or improving UL-94 ratings.
What is colloidal Antimony Pentoxide and when do I need it?
Colloidal Sb₂O₅ has primary particle sizes around 5 nm — much finer than powder grade. It is required when transparency matters (transparent plastics), when wash-fastness matters (textile FR finishes), or when ultra-fine PP fibers need uniform FR distribution.
